Ok so this morning I tried making a green smoothie. It wasn't bad it just didn't have a ton of flavor so it needs some tweaking maybe i could add a kiwi? But if you want to try it i will put the recipe on here, if anything it's a good source of fruits and veggies!
- 2 large handfuls of spinach (use more or less depending on your preference, spinach is very mild so you can't taste it that much)
- 1 banana sliced
- 1 apple peeled and cut into chunks
- 2 tablespoons flaxseed meal (this is optional it will add omega 3's, but it will also make it have a grainy texture)
- add water as needed
I found some substitutes that can be used in recipes for eggs so that you can make your favorite recipe vegan!
Use these in baked goods in place of one egg:
- Half of 1 mashed ripe banana (you can taste the banana so it's best for cookies and cakes and some breads. I made pancakes once using this)
- 1/4 cup tofu blended with the liquid ingredients
- 1/4 cup applesauce
- 1/4 cup canned pumpkin or squash
- 1/4 cup pureed prunes (use 1/2 teaspoon baking powder to make it lighter because the prunes will make it dense)
- 1 heaping teaspoon soy or bean flour mixed with 1 tablespoon of water
- 2 tablespoons of cornstarch beaten with 2 tablespoons of water
- 1 tablespoon finely ground flaxseed whipped with 1/4 cup of water
For casserols, loaves, burger patties, and main dishes (use 2-3 tablespoons of any of the following ingredients or a combination to replace one whole egg. Experiment to see which works best with your recipe):
- tomato paste
- arrowroot starch
- potato starch
- cornstarch
- whole-wheat, unbleached, oat, or bean flour
- finely crushed breadcrumbs, cracker meal, or matzo meal
- quick-cooking rolled oats or cooked oatmeal
- mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes, or instant potato flakes
(For milk soymilk will work just as well. If you are replacing cheese there are many veggie cheeses)
From the book: Vegetarian Cooking for Dummies by Suzanne Havala
So this is my first time blogging stuff. Thats kind of a weird word I'm not going to use it as a verb anymore, it's too much like googling. Anyways I have been a vegetarian for about 5 years and I've decided to make the switch to being vegan. I love cooking so I thought I could use this to post some recipes that I try out, and maybe others might enjoy them, or spit them out in digust. This could take some time since i can't find the chord that attaches my camera to the computer, but I will just post recipes until then. I also like alot of art type things so maybe some of that will go up as well. Hmm... I guess I could post alot of stuff so I'll just do whatever. Anyways, I don't really know what else to put right now so... I'm going to go.
